Disasi nightmare, Fernandez struggles, Felix bright - Chelsea player ratings vs Newcastle
by Bobby Vincent · football.londonChelsea have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup at the round of 16 after being defeated 2-0 by Newcastle United at St. James' Park.
Enzo Maresca unsurprisingly made 11 changes from the team that beat the Magpies 2-1 on Sunday. It was a nightmare start for the Blues on Tyneside with Alexander Isak taking advantage of some sloppy Chelsea play to put the hosts ahead.
It was soon 2-0 when Joe Willock's header was guided into his own goal by Axel Disasi. Despite some pressure from the visitors in the second-half, they were unable to beat Nick Pope and the score stayed at 2-0 to the Toon. Below, Bobby Vincent gives each Chelsea player a score out of 10 based on their performance at St. James' Park...
Filip Jorgensen - Deals well with an early free-kick. Doesn't look great for the Disasi own goal. 5.
Axel Disasi - Scores an own goal that did not look great. On the ball, not good enough. A nightmare day 4.
Tosin Adarabioyo - Did fine. A great ball to Felix on 75 minutes. 6.

Benoit Badiashile - Did okay in physical battles. Dodgy in possession. 5.5.
Marc Cucurella - Fine pullback to Renato Veiga in the opening 10 minutes to almost make it 1-0. Was one of the Blues' stronger performers on a disappointing night. 6.
Renato Veiga - Pressed for the opening goal of the night. Did okay apart from that in the centre of midfield. 5.5.
Enzo Fernandez - Struggled. Some wayward passes. Chelsea were not able to utilise his talent. 5.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - Played on the right wing in the absence of Jadon Sancho. Could not get involved enough. Lasted 57 minutes. 5.
Joao Felix - Has a decent chance 20-or-so minutes in where a bit of magic footwork creates the opportunity. The best player in blue out there. Saying that, he should score on 75 minutes. 6.5.
Mykhailo Mudryk - Some nice moments of link-up with Felix. Unfortunately could not get too involved. 6.
Christopher Nkunku - Quiet. Very quiet. A couple of chances but was not his clinical self. 5.
Substitutes
Noni Madueke - On before the hour-mark. Maresca brought him on to try and add more spark and he certainly did that. Bright. 6.
