Brighton ace, and former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck required oxygen after picking up a concerning back injury during the Premier League clash with Newcastle United. He scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game at St James' Park, but his game was cut short when he had to be stretchered off following an encounter with Fabian Schar.

It seemed a minor incident initially, yet Welbeck couldn't play on. The 33-year-old engaged with fellow players as he was carried off just after 80 minutes into the game.

Despite losing their scorer, Brighton secured the win, moving to within two points of Aston Villa in fourth at the end of the Saturday afternoon fixtures.

Brighton wrote on X (formerly Twitter), at the time of the injury: "Welbz is stretchered off with what looks like a back injury. Let's hope it's not too serious. [fingers crossed emoji]"

Welbeck's earlier goal marked his fifth of the season, making him Brighton's top scorer so far, and he's yet to surpass six league goals in a single campaign with the club. The 1-0 triumph propelled Fabian Hurzeler's side to 15 points from eight matches, reports the Mirror.

Chelsea, who have handed Brighton their only defeat this term, could overtake them with a positive result against Liverpool on Sunday.
