Gary Neville pinpoints two things Arsenal must do to win the Premier League

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes Arsenal need to show more resilience when down to ten men if they wish to win the Premier League this season.

It was a difficult weekend for Mikel Arteta's side who were reduced to ten men for the third time this season as William Saliba was sent off for preventing a goalscoring opportunity in the first half. AFC Bournemouth made the extra man count as a clever strike from Ryan Christie and a Justin Kluivert penalty secured the win for the Cherries.

Arsenal have dropped points on three occasions so far this season against Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester City and now Bournemouth. On each of those occasions the Gunners were down to ten men and while some teams may feel hard done by for dropping points after a dismissal, Neville believes Arsenal should be aiming for more than that.

Speaking on his podcast for Sky Sports, Neville explained: "There was a big debate a few weeks ago when they played against Manchester City which I contributed to when they sat so deep and at the end they conceded that goal. What I would say is yesterday and against Brighton, I still think that if they go down to ten men they have still got to go and win.

"Roy Keane said this a few weeks ago and at the time it was after the City game and it is the one game where you can have some sympathy. But I think Roy was talking about it within relation to the Brighton game.

"I do genuinely believe yesterday that against Bournemouth at 0-0 with ten men they should go and win that match. They have to win that match and they cannot lose that match.

"Obviously you can lose any game of football but I think that is the most disappointing thing is that they haven’t won against Brighton, haven’t won against Bournemouth and I think they should be with the quality they have. So two things, one stop getting players sent off which sounds really easy but sometimes teams go through periods where they do get players sent off and you have got to deal with it and stop it.

"And the second thing is if they do go down to ten men they have got to go and win. On a general note of Arsenal, still very early in the season, early enough for them to recover, early enough for them to still be really dangerous and win the league but I was disappointed with them last night and I think they should be disappointed in themselves."
