Arsenal receive fresh Trossard and Rice red card update with Manchester City decision made

Latest Arsenal news with Manchester City seeing punishment dished out for delaying the restart in their clash against Fulham

Arsenal remain as one of the only teams to have received two Premier League red cards this season. Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice were both shown second yellow cards for delaying the restart after each being booked for cynical fouls against Brighton and Manchester City, respectively.

After both games, with the Gunners dropping four points as a result, Mikel Arteta has been left far from impressed with the Arsenal head coach annoyed at the lack of consistency. Before Trossard and Rice were each dismissed, Jeremy Doku and Joao Pedro both could have been deemed to have delayed the restart by kicking the ball away.

"I prefer not to comment. I've seen it and it's that obvious so I'll leave it to you guys," he said after the game at Etihad Stadium. "I was already in big trouble trying to solve what happened on the pitch. It's not my problem to solve what happens off the pitch."

Asked specifically about the Doku incident, he said: "That's what I'm saying. It's that obvious that it's not necessary to comment on it. It's the second time. I'm expecting 100 Premier League games to be, 10 against 11 or nine vs 10 this season."

Following that, multiple verdicts have been issued with PGMOL chief Howard Webb admitting that referees have been clamping down on players deliberately preventing quick free-kicks from being taken. In recent weeks, Marcus Tavernier was penalised for booting the ball away after the whistle in the clash between Bournemouth and Southampton.

Other teams have also been punished for similar offences with Arsenal's title rivals Manchester City not prone to being effected. In the late stages of their win over Fulham at Etihad Stadium, as per FotMob, Bernardo Silva was shown a yellow card after he brought another ball onto the pitch in order to stop the visitors from pushing for an equaliser.

Though Arsenal will feel very hard done by considering the fact the two notable times they were punished resulted in red cards, it at least shows there is some consistency. The Gunners will also likely be pleased to see it was City that were not let off the hook and thus there will hopefully be no bias in the title race.
