Liverpool dealt Diogo Jota injury blow as five players miss training before Arsenal

Liverpool could be without Diogo Jota for their Champions League clash against RB Leipzig, with the 27-year-old forward absent from training on Tuesday afternoon. The Reds will travel to Germany immediately after the session before facing Marco Silva's side on Wednesday night.

Jota was forced off during Liverpool's match 2-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend after a collision with Tosin Adarabioyo, and his substitute, Darwin Nunez, is expected to take his place against RB Leipzig. Federico Chiesa, another attacking option, remains unavailable, having missed victories against Bologna and Crystal Palace before the international break, as well as the Blues game.

He was not seen at training either. Conor Bradley is also out due to injury and he's anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks, while Harvey Elliott continues his recovery from a broken foot sustained in September.

Alisson Becker is out for a longer period with a hamstring issue. Arne Slot, whose side face Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, had expressed concerns about Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister after the Chelsea clash, but both were present at training.

"I have a lot of confidence in this team, but you also saw today after the international break that we had some problems," said the Liverpool head coach. "Conor Bradley is not in, Trent, which you probably don't know, was also not training in the first days after he came back so he was a bit of [a] doubt before we started the game.

"Then we had Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] being sick. Today Diogo [Jota] had to be substituted. I'm not sure what it is, but I will be surprised if he's there on Wednesday [against RB Leipzig]."

Slot added: "These are all things everybody has and you have to cope with during the season as well. So, that's why I always say it's so difficult to win a league title no matter where in the world because so many things have to be done really good.

"This is a good start to win the second big game we played. But I also saw how difficult it was, how difficult Chelsea made [it] for us. So, in my opinion, if I would be sitting as the Chelsea manager I would say, if we can play like this at Anfield, we are also one of the teams that can compete for [a] top-four position."

Slot will provide a full update on his squad and injuries during his Champions League press conference at 6.30pm UK time on Tuesday evening. With Arsenal set to lock horns with Shakhtar Donetsk an hour or so later at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta's side will have an extra day's rest in the tank when they face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
