Cole Palmer has made Alejandro Garnacho's brother eat his words - after he claimed the England international wouldn't score 10 non-penalty goals in the league.

The formidable Chelsea midfielder has kicked the Premier League campaign off with a bang, scoring six goals so far - including four in just 20 first-half minutes against Brighton. The Englishman is well on his way to matching his impressive 22 goals last season, which won him the PFA Young Player of the Year award, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, Garnacho, the Manchester United wonder, has had a relatively sluggish start - only contributing one goal and an assist so far. This contrasts starkly with Palmer's form, and especially so after Roberto Garnacho's cheeky prediction post-Chelsea's early 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Roberto took to social media back in August after Palmer failed to influence in the game against his old club, during Blues boss Enzo Maresca's debut match.

“Cole Palmer isn’t hitting 10 goals without penalties,” he posted, predicting the 22-year-old to have a far less impressive campaign for Chelsea this time around. Fans were quick to point out the statement's fragility, as one said: "You should know better… Why would you tweet something like this!”

Another added: “He scored 12 non-penalty goals last season, more than any of your forwards,” while a third wrote: “He obviously is. He’s a class player.”

Roberto replied to these claims, adding: "He is [a class player]. I like him. But the penalties last season helped him a lot."

Despite initial impressions after the first match suggesting Maresca's team wouldn't pose much of a challenge this season, a swift turnaround led by the exceptional Palmer has seen them emerge as a formidable contender in the league.

The defeat to City was swiftly forgotten with a 6-2 thrashing of Wolves away from home. A hard-fought 1-1 stalemate with Crystal Palace was the last time the Blues lost points in the league.

Since then, they've defeated Bournemouth, West Ham, and Brighton, climbing to fourth place and netting the highest number of goals in the league so far with 15.

Palmer has six of those goals - five of which have not been penalties. Already halfway to Roberto's forecasted tally of 10, barring any misfortune, it appears the Red Devils star's brother may regret airing his speculation on social media.
