Man United hit with huge FA fine after fiesty Chelsea Premier League clash
by James Quinlan · football.londonManchester United have been slapped with a hefty fine by the Football Association after crossing the disciplinary threshold during Sunday's Premier League showdown with Chelsea.
The historic rivalry between these two teams was once again on full display at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes managed to put United ahead after Robert Sanchez conceded a penalty, while Lisandro Martinez stirred up controversy when he received a yellow card that sparked a Premier League statement after VAR decided it didn't warrant an upgrade to a red.
Martinez's booking was one of six collected by United players in the match against the Blues, with Manuel Ugarte, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Amad Diallo also falling foul of the referee. As all six were penalised in the same game, under FA rules this automatically triggers a £25,000 fine for lack of discipline.
However, the Manchester Evening News reports that due to United's repeat offences in the 2024/25 season - including five yellows and one red during their 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur - the fine has been bumped up to £50,000. This is despite the fact that Fernandes' dismissal in that game was later overturned by the Premier League following an appeal.
In contrast, Chelsea were more disciplined during Sunday's match, receiving only two yellow cards. However, Enzo Maresca's team has already violated this rule three times in the current season, with each penalty increasing.
Their most recent fine was a hefty £75,000 after their 2-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United. If they break the rules again, they'll be hit with a £100,000 fine.

Interim manager of United, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will be hoping his squad can show better discipline in their forthcoming matches against PAOK and Leicester City before Ruben Amorim takes the reins for his first game in charge against Ipswich Town on November 24.
