Arsenal guaranteed to be without four stars vs Newcastle amid Ben White and Odegaard injury wait

Arsenal are set to return to Premier League action with a trip to face Newcastle at St. James' Park following the midweek Carabao Cup win against Preston North End at Deepdale.

It was a comfortable night for the Gunners, who took the lead through Gabriel Jesus before a stunning Ethan Nwaneri effort added a second, with Kai Havertz nodding home a third to round off the evening.

Arsenal will now be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after a draw against Liverpool and loss against Bournemouth in their last two games.

Mikel Arteta was happy with the display against the Championship opposition, particularly when asked about Nwaneri's effort. The young star is making a name for himself and knocking on the door of the Gunners first team amid a number of absences this season.

"He did it yesterday in training so we’re getting used to that," Arteta said after the game. "He's a big talent, he's got the right attitude, he's got the right players and context around him and we need to make sure that we put brick by brick. But we have some player there!"

The Gunners are in the midst of a gruelling run of fixtures between international breaks. Following games against Bournemouth, Shakhtar Donetsk, Liverpool and Preston, Arteta's side now three more four back-to-back away games against Newcastle, Inter and Chelsea.

The good news is that William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes look set to return. Saliba was back from suspension against Preston and is set to start, while Arteta gave an update on his centre-back partner in the press conference ahead of the game against Newcastle.

"Yes [it is good news on Gabriel]," he said. "We have a training session today. If he’s able to complete that he will be available.

"He hasn’t had any training sessions yet but if he can do that today he will be available in the squad."

However, Riccardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard are not yet back in contention, while Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also still out. Meanwhile, there are doubts over Ben White's availability.

"So Ricci and Martin are out definitely," Arteta added. "With Ben we don’t know yet. He hasn’t trained yet. He could not train, he could not get involved so let’s see what happens."
