Arne Slot issues Liverpool injury update on Diogo Jota and three others before Arsenal clash

Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Diogo Jota before Liverpool face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend. The Portugal international was taken off during the first half of last weekend's clash against Chelsea having landed awkwardly following a foul by Tosin Adarabioyo.

The incident occurred in the first few minutes with Jota attempting to continue only to decide he could not carry on which saw Darwin Nunez replace him. Though his early withdrawal was a blow, Liverpool still secured all three points from their clash against the Blues at Anfield.

As a result of that, a gap has opened up between Slot's side and the Gunners following their defeat to Bournemouth. Even with a victory, Mikel Arteta's side would remain behind the Reds, though Manchester City could take advantage as a win against Southampton on Saturday will take them top before their rivals face off on Sunday.

Injuries look set to play a major role in deciding the outcome of the title clash with Arteta sweating on the fitness of both Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber. Martin Odegaard is expected to miss out as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, while Slot will be without goalkeeper Alisson because of a hamstring issue.

As for Jota, having missed training, he is a major doubt for the clash, with Slot providing an update on his condition and three other Liverpool players before they take on RB Leipzig in Champions League action on Wednesday evening.

"Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa didn't make the trip either so we have a few issues," he said. "Diogo got a knock, brought down but the other player fell on to him, he couldn't carry on and it is difficult to judge at this moment. Ribs? Somewhere over here, bruised I think, so we'll have to see how long it is going to take."

With the problem clearly an impact one over a muscular issue the coming days will be crucial for Jota in determining if he can be declared fit for the game. Bruised ribs often require at least one week to fully recover while a fracture could take up to six weeks.

As Slot has described the injury as the former, it will likely be a race against time for Jota when it comes to featuring at Emirates Stadium.
