Thomas Tuchel to England truth as former Chelsea boss enters advanced talks over role

Thomas Tuchel is said to be in advanced talks to become the next permanent manager of the England national team - just over two years after he left his role as Chelsea head coach

More than two years have passed since Chelsea announced the shock decision to part company with head coach Thomas Tuchel. It was a statement of intent from the new ownership, but a decision that caused anguish and heartbreak among the Blues supporters.

From Tuchel's point of view, it was a decision he always knew would come. Eventually. And he was proven right.

Tuchel, though, while being with the club for just 20 months altogether, achieved a hell of a lot during his time at Stamford Bridge. Winning the UEFA Champions League in 2021 will go down as his best achievement, with the German leading Chelsea to their second-ever triumph in the leading European competition.

A UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup followed but it was something else Tuchel did that was perhaps even more impressive. He won over the Chelsea supporters - and so quickly.

From practically day one, it appeared that Blues fans from all around the world were on board with Tuchel. While there were some supporters who never gave him a fair chance - something that has come to be expected in modern day football - the German head coach had the majority of the fan base singing to his tune.

That is why it was so surprising and frankly devastating for fans when the news of his departure was confirmed on September 7, 2022. Now, though, more than 25 months on from the announcement, Tuchel looks set to return to England.

Numerous reports today (Tuesday) have claimed Tuchel is in advanced talks to become the new permanent England manager. Lee Carsley is the interim boss at the moment following the departure of Gareth Southgate after this summer's European Championships and Tuchel has now emerged as the overwhelming favourite for the vacant role.

For Chelsea supporters, those that are English more so, this is fantastic news. Those that are still in love with Tuchel and have been unable to move on since the traumatic break-up in 2022 can now rekindle their romance with the German, who looks set to put pen-to-paper on a contract with the Football Association.

There is such a reliance on how an England manager addresses the media. Southgate was often criticised by supporters for being too boring - but as Chelsea fans well know, that will not be the case with Tuchel.

In fact, Tuchel's press conferences during his time as Blues head coach were sometimes better than the matches themselves. Box office, edge of your seat stuff when Tuchel is on the mic.

On the pitch, the 51-year-old's approach to tournament football will have played a huge role in the FA's interest in his services. During his time as a coach, Tuchel has won five knockout competitions, including the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea.

That is what the FA are going for when it comes to their next manager. They came so close under Southgate - reaching back-to-back Euros finals but they are looking to take the next step with Tuchel. On paper, it looks to be a perfect match.

Football is a better place when Tuchel is involved. It is a more exciting and entertaining sport and for England, if they can get this appointment over the line, it is an out-of-character decision but one that will see the FA reap the rewards.
