Former Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez praised Kai Havertz for his role in Arsenal's win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Tuesday night saw the Gunners claim a 2-0 victory over PSG at the Emirates Stadium in the league phase fixture of the Champions League.

Havertz opened the scoring before Bukayo Saka put Arsenal two goals in front before the half-time interval with a free-kick.

Arsenal now have four points from their first two Champions League fixtures with six left to play during the league phase of the competition.

Benitez, who was recently manager of Celta Vigo before leaving the La Liga club in March this year, worked as a technical observer for UEFA for the Champions League clash between Arsenal and PSG. The former Chelsea boss highlighted the performances of Havertz and Leandro Trossard in the victory in North London.

"I like players who understand the game and have good movement, and the good thing about both [Havertz and Trossard] was the understanding they showed, which was crucial for Arsenal's build-up play," Benítez told UEFA.

"Havertz was keeping the ball well and Trossard showed great movement between the lines."

Benitez was particularly impressed with Havertz's performance against PSG. The 64-year-old explained why Havertz was fundamental to Arsenal winning the game and performing the role of a striker well within the team.

"When Arsenal were building attacks, he [Havertz] was finding clever movements to go to the right place to have a chance to finish," Benitez said.

"He's not a striker that will stay in the box but, after that, he still tries to get into the box to finish, which is what you have to do as a striker."

Arsenal will now prepare to face Southampton in the Premier League this weekend in their final match before the international break. The Gunners are not back in Champions League action until October 22 when they face Shakhtar Donetsk at the Emirates.
