Bukayo Saka injury latest and Arsenal return date wait after worrying England blow

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka suffered an injury scare during England's shock 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday night at Wembley in the Nations League.

Arsenal supporters will have their fingers crossed for good news after star man Bukayo Saka was taken off during England's defeat to Greece at Wembley Stadium on Thursday night.

Saka started that Nations League match, but lasted up to the 52nd minute when he was forced off with an injury. Immediately, Gunners fans feared the worst after they'd lost captain Martin Odegaard - also on international duty -with an ankle issue during September's gap.

The forward's issue could be less serious, but it did appear to be a muscular complaint as he hobbled off the pitch. Providing an update on Saka's fitness, England interim manager Lee Carsley said: "He's being assessed.

"In the build-up to the first goal, you could see he felt something in his leg." Considering the amount of football Saka has played this year - and the number of quality options the interim England manager has at his disposal - then it's perhaps unlikely that we will see the Arsenal forward feature on Sunday when the Three Lions travel to Finland to continue their Nations League campaign.

However, his return date beyond that is not so clear - until the extent of the injury has been determined by the medical staff. Like most Premier League clubs, Arsenal have a busy October once domestic football returns.

A week on Saturday, the Gunners travel to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, before Champions League football returns to the Emirates Stadium with the visit from Shakhtar Donetsk. A huge Premier League encounter with Liverpool, as well as a trip to Preston North End in the Carabao Cup, round off a busy period for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta will be hopeful that Saka will not be missing for many (if any) games, as they look to continue their charge in the title race. The 23-year-old has bagged three goals and seven assists in 10 outings for the Gunners so far this season - once again underlining his value to the team.
