Man United make shock Chelsea transfer decision as Nicolas Jackson 'plan' revealed

by · football.london

Enzo Maresca only had a few days on the training pitches at Cobham before Chelsea return to action. After losing to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Wednesday night, the Blues will begin preparations for their clash against Manchester United.

While Chelsea may have a skip in their step, the Red Devils will be determined to make a first good impression on Ruben Amorim. The Sporting CP boss has been heavily linked with taking the hot seat at Old Trafford following the departure of Erik ten Hag.

In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped up to the plate – and he's got off to a great start, defeating Leicester City to progress into the quarter-finals. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Chelsea news and transfer gossip.

Chelsea track three strikers

According to TBR Football, Chelsea remain interested in three high-profile strikers ahead of the January transfer window. Nicolas Jackson has enjoyed a brilliant start to the Premier League season, scoring six goals in nine games, yet the Blues seem eager to further bolster their frontline.

The report states that Chelsea are still keen on Victor Osimhen and they've been 'regularly' monitoring his progress in Turkey. TBR Football add that the west Londoners are also keeping tabs on Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak ahead of the summer.

football.london says: "Chelsea do not need to sign a new high-profile striker. Nicolas Jackson has done more than enough to prove why he deserves to start week in, week out. The Senegal international has been superb. Whether he's running in behind, holding up the ball, linking play or beating the press with clever turns, he has the full package."

Man United consider Chelsea star

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United could turn to Ben Chilwell if they can't afford to sign Alphonso Davies. The Bayern Munich left-back sees his contract at the Allianz Arena expire at the end of the season, making him available on a free transfer.

The report states that Davies, who's attracted interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona too, could demand a contract worth as much as €12m (£10m) a year. CaughtOffside add that United like Chilwell, who's viewed as a 'more realistic and affordable option'.

football.london says: "I think this would be a great deal for all parties. With Ruben Amorim set to take the wheel at Manchester United, Ben Chilwell could be rejuvenated in a wing-back role."

Chelsea knocked out of the Carabao Cup

Chelsea have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup round of 16 following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park on Wednesday night. The Blues conceded two in quick succession in the first-half and, all in all, struggled to impress, but they still passed up on ample opportunities to draw level.

The Magpies will host Brentford in the quarter-finals, meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester United, Arsenal play Crystal Palace and Southampton lock horns with Liverpool.

football.london says: "It's unfortunate for Chelsea, but it's really not the end of the world. The Blues have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season and they'll be looking to break into the top-four this weekend when facing Manchester United."
