Ruben Amorim sent Viktor Gyokeres transfer message amid major Man Utd decision to impact Arsenal
by Lee Wilmot · football.londonRuben Amorim has been told that he does not need to make Viktor Gyokeres one of his first signings as Manchester United boss. Amorim signed a deal to become the new Red Devils head coach last week, moving from Sporting CP.
Amorim will start work on November 11, just in time to get to know the players that are left at the Carrington training ground while others go off on international break.
The Sporting CP boss had been previously linked with jobs at Tottenham, Liverpool and West Ham in the Premier League, but following Erik ten Hag's sacking, the Portuguese will take over at Old Trafford.
United sit 13th in the Premier League table after ten games of the season - six points adrift of the top four. Amorim has a huge job on his hands and is likely to want money to spend in the transfer market when the winter window opens in January.
There will undoubtedly be links with a number of his former Sporting players, with Gyokeres likely to be high on a number of teams' transfer wishlists.
The Swede has already managed 24 goal involvements in 16 games for the Portuguese giants this season and he will be keenly watched by many fans as Sporting take on Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Gyokeres was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham linked with a move for him. However, everyone balked at the £86million price tag on his head.
Now, with Amorim at United, there are bound to be another team in the frame for his services, given the rumour mill. However, the new United boss has been told he does not need to shell out for him in January.
Former Benfica boss Quique Sanchez Flores has told Record that he believes Amorim will strengthen Manchester United collectively, and turn Rasmus Hojlund into his own Gyokeres. He said: "As far as Hojlund is concerned, the pack is the strength of the wolves. He is a good forward, but he will only reach his level again if the team changes its level of performance.
"Ruben now has the opportunity to train very good players in Manchester. Yes, he can do with Hojlund what he did with Gyokeres."
