Cole Palmer nears Cristiano Ronaldo Man Utd mark after record four-goal outing

Cole Palmer set a Premier League record when he scored four goals against Brighton and could set another with the sale of the shirt he was wearing challenging Cristiano Ronaldo's mark

The shirt worn by Cole Palmer in his record-breaking four-goal game against Brighton and Hove Albion is tipped to land a record fee as it is auctioned off.

Palmer scored four goals in the first half - the first time the feat has been achieved in Premier League history - of the Blues 4-2 win over the Seagulls. The forward first equalised for the west London side with a cool finish from the edge of the box before bagging a trademark penalty.

A remarkable free-kick followed to secure a hat-trick within the space of 30 minutes but a sneaky near post finish ensured Palmer made history. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise since completing his move from Manchester City on transfer deadline day in 2023 and established himself as one of the Premier League's top talents.

Chelsea's talisman has forged a majestic reputation in the last 12 months and to tip it off, the shirt he wore at Stamford Bridge has racked up bids of close to £26,000. Supporters and collectors with deep pockets can put in their own offers at MatchWornShirt.com.

Chelsea will donate the net proceeds from all the club's auctions to the Chelsea F.C. Foundation after partnering with the platform for match-worn and signed football shirts. The company has partnered with PSG, AC Milan and Tottenham in addition to the Blues.

It's anticipated that Palmer's shirt, with a rush of bids on the final day, will challenge the site's biggest ever sale. Cristiano Ronaldo's matchworn shirt from 2022 currently holds the record after landing an impressive £36,000.

Palmer's shirt has drawn interest from around the world with bids arriving from Finland, Hong Kong, Australia and the United States. Enthusiasts have until this weekend to claim the top.

The historic nature of the performance appears to have proven appealing. For Enzo Maresca, that Palmer remains humble is just as impressive.

Following Palmer's goalscoring display, Maresca said: "Yeah, for sure, when you score four goals. I just said to Cole, he scored four but he could have scored two or three more. It is important he continues to be hungry and ambitious.

"I know Cole from many years ago. I had him for one entire season at City and then the first-team. The best thing he has is the way he is today as a boy, he was exactly that way two or three years ago. So, goals and assists, the best player in the Premier League; this does not change the way he is. He is a simple guy, a humble guy - and for me, this is the most important thing."
