How to watch Liverpool vs Brighton: TV channel, live stream and kick-off details
Liverpool host Brighton in the Premier League this afternoon – but Reds fans and Seagull supporters will not be able to tune into the vital clash from the UK
by Abbie Meehan · The MirrorLiverpool will be aiming to return to the top of the Premier League today with a victory over Brighton - but Reds fans won't be able to tune in from home.
The Anfield faithful will head to the stadium for a 3pm kick off against the Seagulls, as they hope for three points to secure yet another win under the high-flying Arne Slot. The Reds are continuing to impress in the league, with last weekend's draw against Arsenal and defeat to Nottingham Forest the only blots on their copy book so far.
With league leaders Manchester City visiting AFC Bournemouth in another 3pm kick-off, the Reds will be looking to secure a win and hope that their close rivals drop points on the south coast. However, Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton will be looking to continue their rich vein of form this season, that consists of four wins, four draws and just one loss in nine games so far.
Most recently, the Seagulls have secured wins over Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, while also drawing against Wolves to keep their three-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League alive. With both teams in a good run of form, Mirror Football brings you everything you need to know about today's clash, which will not be screened live on UK TV.
Why isn't Liverpool vs Brighton on TV in the UK?
This match at Anfield hasn't been selected by broadcasters Sky Sports or TNT Sports for a television slot this weekend. In the Saturday 12:30pm slot, TNT Sports opted to show Newcastle United vs Arsenal as their main fixture.
In Saturday's late game, Wolves vs Crystal Palace will kick-off at 5:30pm and be shown on Sky Sports Main Event. Five more Premier League fixtures will kick off at 3pm. These games, including Liverpool vs Brighton, fall under English football's Saturday blackout law, which runs from 2:45pm to 5:15pm.
This means that any live broadcast of 3pm football matches in the UK is strictly prohibited, and was initially put in place to encourage fans to go to games instead of sitting in the house. In recent years, there have been calls for the historic rule to be cancelled, but a Premier League spokesperson told Mirror Football last year that this law is in place to continue to "protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid".
In order for this rule to be scrapped, the EFL would need to be consulted overall to vote on the removal of the law.
