Paul Pogba backed for sensational Man Utd return amid Cristiano Ronaldo claim

Paul Pogba has gone on to enjoy a fine career since progressing through the academy ranks at Manchester United and has now been backed to return to his old club for a third spell

Louis Saha has tipped Paul Pogba to land one more big move and admits he would love to see his fellow Manchester United alumni back at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman, 31, is currently serving an 18-month ban for doping following a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which downgraded an initial four-year ban.

Pogba is currently on the books at Juventus but it seems unlikely he will feature for the Italian giants again. He has, though, been linked with numerous clubs in recent weeks as he closes in on a return to playing, with his ban up in March 2025.

Although a third spell with United seems unlikely, Saha would love nothing more than to see the classy midfielder given another run at the club where he started his career. And he's convinced Pogba still possesses the quality to shine at an elite level, wherever he ends up.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha said: "Paul Pogba can go wherever he wants. If he’s given the platform to show his talent again, people will be reminded of how special he is. He can play in the Champions League; he can play for France and I’m a big fan of his. I’ve always been harsh on him because when you have that talent, you have a responsibility. He’s going to be super motivated when he comes back."

Pogba failed to hit the heights expected of him on a regular basis during his second spell at Manchester United, where he played under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But Saha reckons there are mitigating factors behind that and points to the fact that other big name players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, have struggled to showcase their best form for whatever reason in recent years.

He continued: "I would love to see him at Manchester United because when you look at their midfield, they have lost Scott McTominay which is a loss because he contributed to the team well.

"When you look at how things went with previous managers and try to understand what happened, you see that there were mistakes that have been made – and letting Pogba go was a sign that things are difficult to manage at Manchester United. It wasn’t just an Erik ten Hag problem, several very talented players struggled with the club’s transition. There were problems with Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and even Marcus Rashford in some way.

"All those things need to stop and hopefully their signings can perform the way they should be performing."
