Louis Saha agrees with Cristiano Ronaldo over Man Utd comments - 'he was right'

Manchester United have failed to hit the same heights since Sir Alex Ferguson retired more than a decade ago

Louis Saha has backed Cristiano Ronaldo over his calls for a full Manchester United rebuild.

The Red Devils haven't won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-13 season, watching on as their noisy neighbours Manchester City have dominated the English game. Ronaldo's second spell at Old Trafford ended on a sour note and he was unable to recreate the form that saw him bring top honours first time around.

Nevertheless, Saha agrees with Ronaldo that the club needed a complete makeover, but warned it will take time to see their efforts bear fruit as Erik ten Hag attempts to transform their fortunes.

He told Casino Hawks: "Cristiano Ronaldo was right when he said that Manchester United needed to rebuild everything, he was right when he said it two years ago. I think part of the reason they have rebuilt everything is because of what he said in that interview, look at the training ground and talk of a new stadium, things have changed.

"This club used to scare the opposition in the way they played, the first step in getting back to that will be the infrastructure and looking and feeling like the club they are."

The club brought former frontman Ruud van Nistelrooy back to Old Trafford in a coaching capacity this summer. Saha has backed the move and insists United should be tapping into the knowledge of those who have already been there and done it from the Fergie era.

The Frenchman added: "You can even look at Ruud van Nistelrooy coming in. These things do take time but it seemed that people at the club started to listen, they started to understand how fans were feeling. It’s only right that the club listened to people who were there in Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, that’s what fans want to get back, that feeling.

"The club should be listening to people like Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy, this club needs to again understand how to win things. What Cristiano and Rio mentioned is the way the club used to be and how the players need to get that confidence that we had, rebuilding the club around them will help."
