Brits have been urged to check their wallets for an extremely rare £5 - because it could be worth a lot of money.

The exclusive fiver, decorated with the face of England's football hero Harry Kane, can fetch as much as £50,000. Only six of these special notes, which pay tribute to Kane's victory as the leading scorer in the 2018 World Cup, were ever put into circulation. The note was crafted by micro-artist Graham Short, who previously gained fame for spectacularly etching Jane Austen onto banknotes.

Although one of these collector's items found its way to Kane and another to the FA, four are secretly mingled with everyday cash, waiting to be discovered by a lucky finder. One coin expert, who goes by the name Coin Collector UK online, has even taken to TikTok to spread the word, saying: "Six £5 notes with Harry Kane on were released into circulation after he became the top goal scorer in the 2018 World Cup."

One of the Harry Kane notes was given to the footballer himself, while another was given to the FA, reports PlymouthLive. But years down the line four of the notes remain yet undiscovered. The rare coin specialist has encouraged people to keep an eye out for the cash.

In a video uploaded to social media platform TikTok, he explained: "Six £5 notes with Harry Kane on were released into circulation after he became the top goal scorer in the 2018 World Cup. The artist, Graham Short, carefully etched Kane's portrait onto the clear part of each note with a needle and it took him six days to complete each one. One note was gifted to the FA, another to Kane himself. And the final four notes were spent across each country in the UK."

He revealed where the notes were distributed. "They were originally spent in Edinburgh, Merthyr Tydfil, Meriden and Northern Ireland," he said. Unusually, they are not a consecutive run.

The Coin Collector added: "Each of the notes is insured up to £50,000 pounds. We can expect it to sell at auction for this as a minimum price. It may be worth even more. Nobody has claimed to own one of these extremely rare five pound notes and none have sold at auction, get checking because you might just have one."

In 2017 it was reported that only one of the Jane Austen £5 notes engraved by Graham is still out there. He added: "The artist, Graham Short, carefully etched Kane's portrait onto the clear part of each note with a needle and it took him six days to complete each one.", reports Plymouth Live.

Finally, the specialist explains how these little treasures have been scattered across the nation: "One note was gifted to the FA, another to Kane himself. And the final four notes were spent across each country in the UK." The note enthusiast lifted the lid on the note distribution, remarking, "They were originally spent in Edinburgh, Merthyr Tydfil, Meriden and Northern Ireland," and revealed an unusual detail by noting "Unusually" they are not a consecutive run.

The Coin Collector didn't hold back enthusiasm: "Each of the notes is insured up to £50,000 pounds. We can expect it to sell at auction for this as a minimum price. It may be worth even more." Ramping up the intrigue, they continued, "Nobody has claimed to own one of these extremely rare five pound notes and none have sold at auction, get checking because you might just have one." It was buzzed about back in 2017 that merely a single one of the fivers engraved by artist Graham remains unclaimed.
