Forgotten Arsenal man still desperate to join new club after quiet exit - 'I'm ready!'

A former Arsenal star is looking for a new opportunity, having been one of several players who departed the Emirates after their contract expired over the summer

Former Arsenal defender Cedric Soares says he is "ready to join" a new club, having left the Gunners at the end of last season.

Cedric made 64 appearances for Arsenal, having initially joined the club on loan from Southampton in January 2020. However, he found his game-time limited in his final two seasons at the Emirates and left Arsenal when his contract expired last summer.

Cedric has yet to join a new club and says he is waiting for an offer that is "right for me and my family".

"I continue to train every day," Cedric told Portuguese outlet Record, as per Sport Witness. "I'm ready to join any time. I feel good physically. Any time an interesting, competitive project comes along, which I also think is right for me and my family.

"Could we see Cedric in Portugal again? If the opportunity arises and it makes sense, yes. But I fought hard to have the career I've had. And I wanted to continue it in a competitive way and at a good level.

"And I think the Portuguese league has really grown a lot. It's become a very interesting league. But as I said, it has to make sense. And a team that's also open to it."

Cedric started his career at Sporting, where he made 94 appearances for the club before leaving to join Southampton, but he has not ruled out joining rivals Porto or Benfica.

"That question had to come up," he joked when asked about a potential move to either club. "Let's spoil the interview. It was going well [laughs]. As I said, it's a very interesting league. And I'm going to leave it at that."

Reflecting on his time at Sporting, he added: "Sporting has always been huge. Even in the youth ranks and when I reached the senior team. It has always been a huge club. We always had enormous support from the fans.

"Even though sometimes we didn't get the results we wanted. I am very happy to see Sporting's growth. I think Sporting deserves it. They have been doing an excellent job. But above all, we have to keep going.

"We have to be consistent. Because it is something very difficult in football. And I think Sporting has been consistent in recent years. And it is very important that it continues to be like this. That it continues to be a regular thing. Fighting for the title. Always."
