Alisson is set to return for Liverpool against Wolves to give boss Arne Slot a big boost for the away trip.

The Kop No 1 missed last weekend’s win over Bournemouth with a hamstring injury. The Brazilian also sat out the midweek Carabao Cup win over West Ham, although it was unlikely he would have started that game in any case.

Caoimhin Kelleher stepped in and kept a clean sheet against the Cherries last weekend. But now Alisson is set to return between the sticks for the trip to Wolves on Saturday.

Slot said: “We think he is [available]. He trained yesterday as part of our session with the group so we are expecting him to do the whole session today so we think he is available – but of course we have to train today. And of course we are really happy with Alisson being back but I want to emphasise that Caoimh did really well in the two games he played for us so another example of me having two, or I think even three, good options in in goal."

Liverpool head to Molineux looking to keep pace with early pace setters Manchester City. They’ve made a strong start to the season with just one defeat in the Premier League and four wins.

Now the games are coming thick and fast after the League Cup win over West Ham and beginning their Champions League campaign with a victory against AC Milan. “That's the positive thing about playing so many games, these players will always play a lot of games,” said Slot.

“I think they understand they can't play every game unless it's absolutely necessary to keep them fit and sharp and to keep them ready to perform like they do. As long as they accept the situation they as it is, and that is what they are doing at the moment because they have good number.

“I see them smile a lot as well, then it's a very positive thing for us and it's also one of the things for my job, I have to keep them alert and happy in the position they are in.”

Slot was asked about contract talks around Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah who are available to speak to foreign clubs from January with their deals set to expire in the summer. The Dutchman was asked if he would be disappointed should he only get to work with them for a season.

He added: “I am very happy these three players are in my team at the moment and there are lot of games to be played in this season, especially in the upcoming weeks, so I am really happy I can select them and let's see what the future brings.”
