Luke Shaw has yet to feature for Manchester United this season

Ruben Amorim is dream appointment for one Man Utd player after Erik ten Hag sacking

Ruben Amorim is just days away from his officially taking the reins at Manchester United with the Portuguese boss entrusted to turn around the fortunes of the Premier League giants

Ruben Amorim's Manchester United appointment is a "dream scenario" for Luke Shaw, according to ex-Chelsea star Pat Nevin.

The Sporting Lisbon boss will assume head coach duties at Old Trafford on Monday (November 11) as the replacement for Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by the Premier League giants last month. If United fans weren't already excited for the arrival of the 39-year-old, his Sporting side's impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this week only added to the anticipation.

The footballing philosophy of the former Portugal international is based around playing three at the back – a vast contrast to the United team that has been moulded by Ten Hag since the Dutchman joined in 2022.

Some United players are set to benefit from Amorim's appointment, according to Nevin, who also played for Everton, admitting that alongside Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are the key winners from the club's coaching change.

Speaking to BetVictor, the ex-Scotland international said: "When you look at players trying to get into Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side, it might help if you’re Portuguese!

"There’s been an amazing amount of positivity from Bruno Fernandes around the announcement. I think Manuel Ugarte, whom he worked with at Sporting, will be important for him. In the end it will really come down to who fits into his system, because he is going to play three at the back. That will suit certain players, but others, not so much."

Despite Shaw having yet to feature for the club this season due to a calf injury, with his last appearance for United coming in February, Nevin said the England international will be a prime beneficiary from Amorim's arrival.

"It’s a dream scenario for Luke Shaw," the 61-year-old said. "He can play on the left of the back three, or as the left wing-back. Long-term, I think it will be harder for players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. They’re not young anymore and Amorim will want more dynamism in his midfield. I think it will be tough for them."

The 29-year-old was last in action for England during Euro 2024 this past summer with the left-back reportedly suffering a setback in his latest attempt to recover from injury.
