Harry Kane is set to make Bayern Munich's Champions League showdown with Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Kane limped out of his side's 1-1 draw with champions Bayer Leverkusen in their Bundesliga battle on Saturday evening. Last season's Golden Boot winner went off in the 86th minute after sustaining the problem late on.

It had been a difficult night for Kane, outstanding in the early weeks of the season for Bayern, as he failed to register a shot at the Allianz Arena. The visitors went ahead through Robert Andrich, with Aleksandar Pavlovic equalising for Bayern before the break, but neither side was able to push on and claim victory.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany told reporters after the game that he hoped the England captain would be fit for the trip to Villa Park, declaring: "I know something happened, but I hope he's ready for Wednesday."

Speaking after the draw Kane put a positive light on things, explaining: "It happened during a tackle, it was painful. We'll investigate further tomorrow."

Pressed on whether he will play against Villa, he added: "I assume that I can play."

And on Sunday, Bayern revealed a "positive development", with Kane's ankle issue not as bad as first feared.

A club update on Sunday read: “Harry Kane took a painful knock to his ankle in Bayern’s Bundesliga game at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Examinations by the club’s medical unit on Sunday determined a positive development. Kane will continue to receive appropriate treatment.”

Kane struck four in Bayern's opening game of the Champions League, as they routed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on home soil.

That made the ex-Tottenham star the top-scoring Englishman in the competition, a record he'll look to add to in the West Midlands.
