Ruud van Nistelrooy sends clear message to Man Utd bosses ahead of Ruben Amorim arrival
Manchester United tasted victory in their first match under the guidance of interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy as they comfortably beat Leicester in the Carabao Cup
by David McDonnell · The MirrorRuud van Nistelrooy led Manchester United to victory in his first game in charge – then said he wants to be part of incoming boss Ruben Amorim's coaching team.
Van Nistelrooy is in temporary charge of United following Erik ten Hag's sacking and began his tenure with a thumping win to set up a quarter-final meeting away to Tottenham.
United skipper Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro scored twice, with Alejandro Garnacho plundering the other, as the Red Devils went on the rampage at Old Trafford.
Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim is set to become United's new boss once a deal is finalised, with Van Nistelrooy revealing he is happy to be a part of his backroom staff if required.
“I came here as an assistant to help the club," said Van Nistelrooy. "Now, in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future, in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I'm here for.
"I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity, with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change. We scored some great goals, the first one was a beauty from Casemiro. I have to also say that we had some luck as well.
"Two posts and it comes to Casemiro's feet and Bruno's free kick is deflected and it’s in, but it’s the first one for him after a long time, so I'm so happy for him that he’s on the scoresheet twice.
"Five goals, but the chances against West Ham, Fenerbahce and Brentford, we created so many more bigger chances. All of a sudden we had some luck on our side - that made it a great day today."
United defender Diogo Dalot said: “ That was the message we wanted to send after a defeat and a tough week. That was the minimum we could show, for ourselves and for the fans. A lot of goals, good goals. A good night at Old Trafford.
“We've been creating enough to win games, the difference was a bit more determination in the final third, believing we were going to score, having that confidence we could score.
“We still had two goals we conceded that we should avoid but overall it was a good night for us.”
