New York Jets star 'risks wrath of Michael Jordan' and sent Adidas warning
Garrett Wilson made one of the best touchdown catches in NFL history as the New York Jets secured a 21-14 win over the Houston Texans, but his celebration could land him in trouble
by Cameron Winstanley · The MirrorDavante Adams couldn't help but tease his New York Jets teammate Garrett Wilson after his sensational touchdown, suggesting he might incur Michael Jordan's wrath for the catch that mirrored the basketball legend's iconic brand logo.
The Jets wide receiver made an NFL history-worthy touchdown grab against the Houston Texans on Thursday, contributing to their 21-13 win and breaking a four-game losing streak. In the fourth quarter, Wilson soared for a one-handed catch from a 26-yard pass by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, reminiscent of Jordan's famous silhouette.
After the match, Adams joked with reporters about Wilson's Adidas endorsement potentially being at risk due to the similarity to the Jumpman logo. "I don't know, I told him he might get kicked from Adidas after that one," Adams said with a laugh.
"That one looked like he headed over to Jumpman with me, so we gonna see. I'm gonna talk to some people about that one, but I ain't gonna say they gonna replace the logo ... Mike [Michael Jordan] might not like me saying that, but that was a hard catch."
Adams wasn't alone in drawing parallels to the Chicago Bulls icon; Jets defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw also exclaimed the catch was "unbelievable," commenting: "He looked like he was Jordan."
The catch was initially ruled out of bounds and almost erased from history. However, after a review by officials, the decision was overturned.
This touchdown put the Jets ahead 14-10 and ignited the spark they needed to end their losing streak. Wilson shared his thoughts during the catch. He also expressed his surprise the call was reversed.
He said: "Honestly, I'm not thinking about much. How can I make a play? Give myself a chance to make a play. Aaron believed in me. Once the ball's going up you got no other choice but to go and try and do what you can do."
"I'm glad they switched the call. I wasn't so sure they would, and it was a cool play. We needed it.
"At the end of the day, I pride myself on coming through when we need it. I wasn't that confident, honestly. I wasn't that confident," he continued. "I don't really know exactly what goes into it, but they said I had the shin down. We'll take it."
