Tyrrell Hatton's return to the DP World Tour was a success all round, after the Englishman was crowned Alfred Dunhill Links Championship whilst securing his Ryder Cup eligibility for 2025.

Hatton was crowned champion at the Home of Golf for the third time in his career, seeing off Nicolas Colsaerts by a single shot on Sunday to end the tournament at 24-under-par. Having carded a 65 and 68 at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns in the opening two rounds, Hatton came into his own at St Andrews.

The three-time champion equalled the course record on Saturday with a remarkable 11-under-par 61, as Hatton went bogey-free whilst making nine birdies and an eagle in his record-breaking round.

A day later a two-under 70 proved enough to fend off the veteran, Colsaerts as he once again posed for a victory photo on the iconic Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course. Hatton has spent the large majority of the season competing on the LIV Golf circuit, having made the switch earlier this year.

This did however put his future at the Ryder Cup in jeopardy, with all players wanting to compete at the matchplay event in European colours required to be members of the DP World Tour. To hold onto this membership, players must player a minimum of four events each year.

Ahead of last month's British Masters, Hatton had played just one, coming in the Dubai Desert Classic two weeks prior to his LIV move. After returning at The Belfry, Hatton has since competed in the Spanish Open, before completing his four-event quota as a champion at the Dunhill Links.

It will be music to the ears of European captain Luke Donald, who not only has seen one of his star men remain eligible, but also perform impressively too. Prior to Hatton ticking of his four events, Donald welcomed the DP World Tour return of the LIV stae at the British Masters.

“Look, I am excited to have as many players as I can to choose from and to be eligible and I am glad that Tyrrell is playing this week,” Donald said at The Belfry in the summer. “He’s obviously done everything he needed to do as per the DP World Tour policy and I hope he can be one of the guys I can look for next year as someone that is eligible.”

And Hatton has done exactly that to remain eligible, however there still are some underlying issues. Having competed in 'conflicting' LIV events, the Englishman has been handed fines and suspensions by the DP World Tour, which per status rules, must be settled to represent Team Europe.

Hatton however is yet to do this, and instead opted to appeal the punishments against him which has allowed him to compete freely on the Wentworth-based circuit in recent weeks. It remains unknown as to whether the 32-year-old's appeal will be settled before or after the Ryder Cup next September.
