Ex-WWE star, 39, rushed to hospital after fiancee found him collapsed on floor

AEW wrestler Luchasaurus, real name Austin Matelson, was found by his fiancee after collapsing at home and is now being treated for double pneumonia in hospital

AEW wrestler Luchasaurus is being treated for pneumonia in both of his lungs after collapsing.

The 39-year-old, whose real name is Austin Matelson, was found on the floor at home by his fiancee. He was then rushed to hospital, where it was discovered that his blood oxygen levels were below 80 per cent.

Matelson is now being treated is on oxygen. It's claimed in a report from Fightful that the grappler was just days away from sustaining permanent lung damage.

It's said Matelson was told that a general recovery period would be around a month, though it remains unclear when he will be given the green light to return to the ring.

Matelson has become a well-known figure in the United States due to his appearances for All Elite Wrestling as Luchasaurus, aka Killswitch. He has also previously performed for both the WWE and Lucha Underground.

He is currently aligned with WWE legend Christian in a stable named The Patriarchy. The Luchasaurus character is a former AEW Tag Team champion and a former TNT champion.

British wrestler Simon Miller took to social media to wish Matelson the best, saying: "Man, all the best to Luchasaurus. Always such a good dude (dinosaur) when I’ve run him into him. Sending him positive thoughts and a swift recovery."

His former team-mate Marko Stunt, who competed with Matelson and Jack Perry as part of the Jurassic Express in AEW, said: "Whatever @luchasaurus has going on in his head right now, idk. But I’ll never forget the times he stuck his neck out for me, both in and outside the ring. Genuinely cared for and protected me."

Matelson has wrestled just eight times this year for AEW. His most recent outing was at their London show, All In, where he competed in two different matches at Wembley.

He was on the losing side in a four-way ladder match with Christian before losing the Casino Gauntlet Battle Royal, though his tag team partner was victorious.

AEW was founded by Tony Khan, the son of Fulham owner Shahid Khan, back in January 2019 and is widely recognised as America's No.2 wrestling promotion behind the WWE.
