Fantasy EFL: Five players to watch this weekend and tips for the international break

The international break may be upon us meaning no Premier League or Championship clubs are in action, but there are still plenty of other games taking place across the EFL

by · The Mirror

The international break may be upon us but Fantasy EFL rolls on - and it's not too late to get in on the action.

The Football League launched its brand new fantasy game in the summer to meet the demands of fans. The game has a hybrid format which asks teams to select seven different players from across all three divisions, plus two match results for extra points.

Users are able to set their teams up in a variety of different formations, including including 1-2-2-2, 1-2-3-1 and 1-3-2-1, and gameweeks run from Thursday to Wednesday with unlimited transfers on offer.

There are no fixtures in the Championship this weekend but there is still plenty of action going on across the country. Here are this week's top five picks for you to get your teeth into...

1. Mickey Demetriou (Crewe Alexandra)

Demetriou is the highest scoring player across all positions who is during playing this International Break weekend. The versatile veteran, 34, offers various routes to points having scored once already to complement Crewe's five clean sheets to date.

Eighth-placed Crewe travel to high-flying Doncaster in one of this weekend's standout fixtures in League Two.

2. Luke Molyneux (Doncaster Rovers)

Molyneux will be bidding to ruin Demetriou's prospects of a sixth clean sheet haul and is the most selected player in Fantasy EFL teams ahead of this weekend's round of games.

The 26-year-old has been in red-hot form this term and has collected points for five goals and two assists during Doncaster's opening nine league games.

3. Ethon Archer (Cheltenham Town)

Archer was the most productive goalscorer from last weekend who is slated to feature during the international break, with Cheltenham Town set to host Swindon.

The 22-year-old has a goal and two assists to his name in 10 league appearances and will be bidding to add to that tally after opening his account for the season in the recent win over Accrington Stanley.

4. Robbie McKenzie (Gillingham)

McKenzie is part of one of the leanest defences in League Two - and the Gills haven't been bad going either this term under Mark Bonner, who has them second and only behind leaders Walsall on goal difference.

McKenzie, 26, has the second best average score of players competing this weekend behind Demetriou and has a plum fixture with Gillingham hosting strugglers Accrington Stanley, who are second from bottom.

5. Alex Bass (Notts County)

Bass is the highest scoring goalkeeper who has a fixture this weekend and could pick up lots of points when Notts County renew their healthy rivalry with Chesterfield this weekend.

The shot-stopper, 26, has kept three clean sheets in Notts' 10 league games so far his term and established himself as one of the best goalies in League Two with AFC Wimbledon last year.
