Jamie Carragher casts further doubt on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future
Trent Alexander-Arnold has less than a year remaining on his Liverpool contract and has been strongly linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer
by Daniel Orme · The MirrorJamie Carragher is “worried” about Trent Alexander-Arnold's future amid links with Real Madrid.
The Reds academy graduate is out of contract at the end of the season. He would be eligible to open talks with foreign clubs as soon as January regarding a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
Real Madrid have been the club linked the most prominently with a move for Alexander-Arnold as they aim to find a successor to veteran defender Dani Carvajal. And ex-Liverpool star Carragher has concerns that could potentially come to fruition in the near future.
As quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “I'm pretty confident that the two older lads [Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah] will sign. They're at a stage where it's difficult to move on to a better club than Liverpool.
“When I played, the two only clubs where players would want to move on to were the Spanish giants but I don't really see that now for Virgil and Mo - who will be desperate to break as many records as he can.
“Trent is in a different situation, so that's the one most people will be worried about with the interest from Real Madrid and the fact that Dani Carvajal has done his ACL.”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has already issued his thoughts on his three contract rebels. Speaking last month, the Dutchman insisted that any ongoing talks or speculation would not affect their application on the pitch.
“I think you underestimate our players,” he said. “These players are used to being linked with all the top clubs on a daily basis, if they have contracts or not.

“If you think they’re disturbed by this interest then you don’t do justice to how strong they are mentally. This is part of our job. This is part of this world we are living in. You just focus on what you have to do.
“Maybe if you’re 17 or 18 years of age it could be difficult for you. But Trent has won the league, has won the Champions League; Virgil and Mo the same. I don’t think that is a problem for them to perform and that’s what we see at the moment because they’re playing really well.”
And Alexander-Arnold appears to have not let talk over his future affect his performances. The England defender has been a virtual ever-present under new boss Slot having made 13 appearances in all competitions, with two assists.
