Ruben Amorim sends reality check to Man Utd fans after humiliating Man City
Ruben Amorim has warned Manchester United cannot play the same way his Sporting side did when they beat Manchester City 4-1 at home in the Champions League on Tuesday
by Matthew Cooper · The MirrorRuben Amorim has admitted Manchester United "cannot play the way we play" after masterminding a brilliant win over Manchester City in the Champions League.
Sporting beat City 4-1 in Amorim's final home game in charge of the club before he starts his new job at Old Trafford, with Viktor Gyokeres scoring a hat-trick and Maximiliano Araujo also getting on the scoresheet.
Despite the impressive scoreline, Sporting had just 27 percent possession against City and Amorim admitted he "cannot be so defensive" at United. Speaking after the game, Amorim said: "This does not mean anything specifically and it is misleading
"We will not be able to transport one reality to another. United cannot play the way we play, they cannot be so defensive. We will have to adapt. Of course it's good to beat City. But I'll be living in a different world in Manchester.
"We'll have to start from a different point. This was a one-off and we had luck on our side. I will take this to the Premier League, but it will be different in Manchester. It will be fun and I am ready for the challenge."
Hat-trick hero Gyokeres also paid tribute to Amorim after Sporting's "brilliant" victory. Gyokeres told UEFA: "We will miss him a lot. "We've done amazing things together. We will miss him and the other guys in the staff who will leave.
"We have to look forward and attack the next challenge ahead of us. It's always nice to score and even better to score a hat-trick. Most important was to win the game so it was a brilliant night for us.

"We knew it was going to be tough and we didn't start off well. We knew they would give us space and we could have scored more than four to be fair. They could have scored more as well.
"You need to raise your level when you play better opponents. I tried to keep doing what I've been doing." Sporting currently sit top of the Primeira Liga and second in the Champions League, with only Liverpool ahead of them.
