Mikel Arteta told major trophy is 'inevitable' despite arriving at Arsenal 'with suspicion'

Mikel Arteta has established Arsenal among one of the major players for the Premier League title and a former star has backed the North London club to win trophies sooner rather than later

A trophy under Mikel Arteta is ‘inevitable’, former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva has claimed.

The Gunners have already won silverware under the Spaniard. He led the North London side to the 2020 FA Cup following his first season at the helm.

Arteta then added the Community Shield to Arsenal ’s collection but since then, the club have gone trophyless. That is not due to a lack of effort though, with Arsenal having emerged as major challengers for the Premier League title over the past couple of seasons.

That is expected to be the same this time around. Arsenal sit third in the current standings having won five out of their opening seven games of the season.

And former midfielder Gilberto Silva - who won the title with the Gunners as they went unbeaten during the 2003/04 season - believes it is only a matter of time for another major success under Arteta. Speaking to Mybettingsites.co.uk, he said: “He arrived with some suspicion, but it has worked out very well so far.

“He is young, but the gamble paid off. He has the confidence that the management has given him to play his role. He has grown year after year and the media and fans already respect him.

“He is competing and beating giants, managing to raise the level of the game. He has a lot of merit in what Arsenal has been doing. Inevitably, an achievement will happen to value everything that has been done.”

And Silva is so sure about his claim having watched Arteta in action during pre-season. Speaking about his experience, he added: “He is very serious, works hard and is focused.

“He is also humble enough to learn and listen to people. He has managed to put together a team of people who help each other on a daily basis and build this entire process of growth for Arsenal.”

Arsenal will resume their fight for their first Premier League title in two decades after the international break. They travel to the South Coast for a clash with Bournemouth.

Away from the Premier League, the Gunners are also well-placed to challenge for major honours elsewhere. They have reached the last 16 of the League Cup and will take on Championship side Preston at the end of the month.

Arteta’s side have also enjoyed a positive start to their latest Champions League campaign. They were held to a draw by Atalanta in their opening game before a win against French champions Paris Saint-Germain. They will next take on Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
