I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is just weeks away and the all-star line-up is slowly being revealed.

Ally McCoist may have turned down I’m a Celebrity after getting cold feet for the THIRD time but bosses have lined up another sporting hero - in the form of boxing legend Barry McGuigan.

The Irish star is heading Down Under, having previously said that boxing pal Amir Khan had been “embarrassing” in a particular Bushtucker Trial because he rushed off after encountering a snake.

Speaking at the time, in 2017, McGuigan said: “He was a bit embarrassing on the first task but he made up for it last night.”

The former world featherweight champion, from Monaghan, is now 63 but keeps fit with regular exercise and weight training. He has explained: “You have to fight back against ageing. As we get older, we start to develop joint problems, issue with knees and hips and ankles. You have to fight back and the way to do it is through body weight exercises, particularly lunges and squats.”

The dad-of-four suffered tragedy in 2019 when his daughter Danika died of cancer aged just 33. He said afterwards that she inspired him to look after himself and stay strong. “We think about her nonstop. She was a super girl, a super lassie. It has been such a tragedy for us, but I know I have to get on with life, for her.”

During his professional career, McGuigan was known as the Clones Cyclone. After he retired from the ring, he moved into boxing promotion along with several members of his immediate family. McGuigan, his wife Sandra and their three sons were involved in the running of Cyclone Promotions Ltd while McGuigans Gym Ltd was run by the couple and their son Shane.

Earlier this year both companies were reported to have gone into liquidation.

The legend - who fought for both Ireland and Great Britain during his career - was involved in a multi-million-pound legal dispute over earnings with Belfast boxer Carl Frampton in 2020. Frampton sued McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions for alleged withheld earnings, while McGuigan counter-sued Frampton for alleged breach of contract. Both men denied the respective allegations against them and the case was eventually settled out of court with the terms not made public.
