Ruben Amorim makes big call on forgotten Man Utd star signed by Erik Ten Hag
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is now in place at Old Trafford and there will be plenty of stars vying to play in his first match at the helm later this month
by Dan Marsh · The MirrorRuben Amorim is said to have earmarked Mason Mount for a significant role in his team as he continues to map out his plans at Manchester United.
Amorim, 39, started his new role with the Red Devils this week after quitting Sporting Lisbon. He inherits a side who are currently 13th in the Premier League table following their torrid start to the season under his predecessor, Erik ten Hag.
After winning two Portuguese titles and two cups during his time at Sporting, Amorim is widely recognised as one of Europe's most exciting young coaches and anticipation is high at Old Trafford following his appointment, which is regarded as a major coup.
With Amorim expected to deploy the same 3-4-3 shape which brought him success overseas, his team selection will be intriguing - and one star who has endured difficult times since joining United could be a big beneficiary under Amorim.
As outlined by a new report from The Sun, Amorim has plans to make Mount a key figure in United's new-look team. It's said the Portuguese coach 'admires' Mount's versatility, which looks set to work greatly in the 25-year-old's favour.
Mount has just returned to full training having been plagued by injuries since swapping Chelsea for Manchester United in a £60million deal last summer. He has been restricted to just 26 appearances to date and unable to showcase his best form.
The Blues academy graduate was an integral figure at Chelsea, who massively split opinion among their own fanbase when they decide to cash in on the popular midfielder after he entered the final year of his contract.

Intriguingly, Mount's best spell of form at Chelsea arguably came under Thomas Tuchel, who also deployed a back three. Mount thrived as an inverted winger of sorts, though it remains to be seen how Amorim plans to use him.
He was signed by Ten Hag with the intention of being played alongside Bruno Fernandes as dual 10's ahead of Casemiro. But a combination of injuries and poor form meant the Dutchman had to shelve his plans.
Ten Hag was sacked by the Old Trafford powerbrokers last month after overseeing a disappointing start to the season. His final game at the helm was the 2-1 defeat away at West Ham.
