Why Tom Brady will continue NFL commentary career despite Las Vegas Raiders ownership

Tom Brady is expected to have his ownership bid for the Las Vegas Raiders approved by the NFL, but the ex-quarterback will have several restrictions on his role with a loophole

Tom Brady is expected to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders - but this move could limit his role as an NFL commentator for FOX Sports.

Despite these restrictions, there's a loophole that might allow Brady to bypass these limitations. As the newest minority owner of the Raiders, Brady would be barred from entering another team's facility, watching practice, or attending production meetings.

These meetings are typically where analysts gather the necessary information for each game. However, while Brady himself can't attend these meetings, his entire production team can.

This essentially provides Brady with an alternative way to access information, despite being excluded from the initial meeting. Once he officially becomes an owner of the Raiders, Brady will also be prohibited from criticising officials.

According to ESPN, the NFL's finance committee has reviewed Brady's bid and it's likely to be approved. The committee usually doesn't present bids to the owners if they believe it won't be approved.

Therefore, it's expected that the 47-year-old's bid will be approved, adding to another almost unanimous recommendation.

Brady is set to become a part-owner of the Raiders, with about 10 per cent of the franchise in his hands once the deal is sealed. When news of the arrangement broke, Raiders boss Mark Davis couldn't hide his enthusiasm, saying: "We’re excited for Tom to join the Raiders. And it’s exciting because he will be just the third player in the history of the National Football League to become an owner."

As Brady steps into this new role, questions are being raised about how it might impact his ability to provide game commentary, especially with his ownership deal nearing completion. His performance so far has received mixed reviews, with some fans branding his commentary as "weird" on social media.

Even former Super Bowl winner Mitchell Schwartz chimed in on X, suggesting that Brady hasn't added anything noteworthy to the commentary box. "He's brought nothing to the booth that any other former player or color guy wouldn't/hasn't," Schwartz observed. "The whole point is he's Tom Brady his mind is supposed to be different than anyone else. Plus he's slow to comment during play."

Former FOX commentator Skip Bayless joined Geoff Schwartz in critiquing Tom Brady's entry into sports commentary. Bayless lambasted the NFL icon for his uninspired analysis during the clash between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals.

On platform X, Bayless conveyed his dismay over Brady's commentary style: "I've been listening to 49ers-Cardinals commentary by Capt. Obvious... who just talks and talks more and more obvious."
