Alvaro Morata forced to move house just days after moving in because of local mayor

Spain's Euro 2024 captain Alvaro Morata appeared to have found a new family home after joining AC Milan from Atletico Madrid but finds himself on the move again

Former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata says has been forced to leave his new luxury home after the local mayor put his security at risk.

Morata, who captained Spain's Euro 2024 winning squad, left Atletico Madrid for AC Milan over the summer. He found a property in Corbetta, around 20 miles to the west of the city of Milan.

The problem arose when Corbetta mayor Marco Ballarini celebrated the arrival of the 31-year-old father of four, who split with his wife Alice over the summer. Ballarini offered a warm welcome to the new arrival, but things didn't go exactly as planned.

Corbetta's population, at the last official count, was a little over 18,000. And, after discovering a large number of that population were aware of his presence, Morata felt he could no longer stay.

"Dear Mr Mayor, thanks for violating my privacy," the striker wrote in an Instagram story. "Thankfully I don't have anything of value.

"The only treasures I have are my children, whose security has been jeopardised by you. I thought that the town of Corbetta could afford me a certain amount of privacy.

"Instead I find myself having to move house straight away, thanks to your inabilities to use social media and to safeguard your citizens."

Morata's Milan spell marks a return to Italy for the striker, who previously had two stints at Juventus. He scored on his debut against Torino in August, and added another goal in a 3-0 victory over Lecce at the end of September.

Paulo Fonseca's team sit third in the Serie A table after recovering from a slow start, but have lost their first two Champions League games. They were beaten at home by Liverpool in their opener, before suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen.

“It’s true that we didn’t win, but it was the performance I liked the most since I arrived here,” Fonseca told Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia) after the reverse in Germany. His team will have another chance to get off the mark on October 22 when Club Brugge come to the San Siro.

“Above all in the second half, we had a fantastic performance, we created so many chances and just failed to convert them, which is not easy against a team like Bayer," the MIlan boss added. "We were sad in the dressing room, but we must also be balanced and recognise what we did. I am not satisfied with the result, but I am satisfied with the approach.”
