Man City star says club have 'already decided' who will replace Pep Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was strongly linked with taking over the England national team before Thomas Tuchel’s appointment but he could still be on the way out

Manchester City have already picked the man to replace Pep Guardiola, according to goalkeeper Ederson.

The Spanish schemer has long been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola’s current contract only runs until next summer, while he was also linked with the England job.

That will now not happen after Thomas Tuchel was appointed by The FA. But regardless, there are still questions to answer about Guardiola’s future and Ederson believes that City chiefs already know their prime target for the dugout.

“City is a very well-structured club, well-managed, great directors, great CEO,” the Brazilian told TNT Sports Brazil. “I believe the club already has the next manager in mind … the day Pep decides to leave, they will try to follow the same line of work.

“Of course it’d be a great loss [if Guardiola left]. We’re talking about the best manager in the world but I see a really well-prepared club for the post-Pep era.”

One man who has been linked with the post is Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim. Rumours intensified after City moved to appoint ex-Sporting chief Hugo Viana as Txiki Begiristain’s replacement.

But Amorim insists that their futures aren’t necessarily intertwined. Speaking recently, he said: “His appointment doesn’t mean that I’m going to Man City. We have a very good professional relationship.'

“Nothing about Sporting has changed. Nothing. Everything remains the same until the end of the season.” Amorim added.

“Obviously, Viana, during City's week, won't be available to enter the dressing room. I'm going to leave him out, to avoid conflicts. Otherwise, everything will stay the same until the end of the season.”

Guardiola has also spoken out on his future and insisted that he has not decided on either an exit or an extended deal. Speaking on Italian TV, he said: "When I take it [a decision], I will inform you, for sure, 100 per cent. That's why there is no news, and that's why I don't have to add absolutely anything else."

Meanwhile, the Spaniard grew frustrated this week when asked once again about the England role. He said: "Thomas Tuchel is the manager, so congratulations for the FA and Thomas for the big job. I wish England, just for the fact I am nine years here, the very best for them."

Asked if he was ever in the running, the Man City boss replied: "Thomas Tuchel is the manager, so forget about it. I'm the manager of Manchester City, so the conversations I have are about Manchester City. This is what it is. Tuchel is the manager already, Thomas is that. This is the most important, the rest is not important."
