SAS hardman Jason Fox says he's found new love - but it's not what you'd expect

Jason Fox, known for his SAS: Who Dares Wins heroics, has surprisingly likened the mental grind of reducing his golf handicap to special forces training.

The hardened commando who served twenty years in locations fraught with danger took up golf just before the Covid-19 outbreak and has since been hitting the links whenever possible, crediting the sport with aiding in his mental health maintenance.

He disclosed: "Golf is incredibly challenging, but so worth putting the effort in for."

Moreover, he added: "I’d certainly consider bringing my handicap down as big of a challenge as training for the SAS."

After leaving the military due to PTSD, Foxy experienced severe isolation and suicidal thoughts. Now, he channels that ordeal into educating others on mental resilience and facing life's hardships head-on.

He also praises golf for providing stability to his mental well-being, explaining: "Golf is such a great release for me. It definitely helps keep me on the straight and narrow mentally."

He emphasizes the significance of relaxation and camaraderie during play, saying: "It’s so important to have a laugh and relax on the fairway. When you’re having a round it’s important to chat."

Ex-Special Forces hardman and golf enthusiast Foxy has joined forces with Stromberg to roll out their latest Autumn/Winter range. He rigorously tested the gear at one of Britain's harshest weather spots, the legendary Land’s End.

Reflecting on Britain's formidable soldiers and connection to the harsh climate, he noted: "Britain produces some of the best soldiers in the world - because we train and learn to operate in the worst weather conditions possible. And if you can operate there - then when you’re on a mission everything falls into place."

Foxy added: "The same applies to the golf course. If you can master the game when it’s lashing down - then when it’s blue skies and sun overhead, it’s an absolute breeze. This new Stromberg collection provides the ultimate all-weather protection - so there’s absolutely no excuse not to be out on the fairway."

Delving deeper into the correlation between military operations and golf, Foxy underscored the importance of resilience, stating: "You have to have the courage to put yourself into environments you might be uncomfortable in. It’s all down to the discipline of being able to operate at a very high level under any circumstances."

His mantra is firm - pure determination and the will to push oneself beyond comfort zones are imperative. He added: "There’s no substitute for hard graft and putting the hours in - especially when the conditions are against you."
