Alan Shearer has been a regular fixture on the football punditry scene down the years, but fans may not know much about the one time British transfer record's private and family life

Alan Shearer is one of England's finest ever goalscorers and a respected football pundit – but fans don't tend to know much about his private life.

Beginning life at Southampton, the ex-Newcastle United striker secured his status as one of the game's true legends after netting 206 times for the Magpies. However, Shearer's career was just not centred around goals, as he picked up the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

The now 54-year-old also set a transfer record when he moved to Newcastle from Rovers for £15million in 1996. He is still the all-time record scorer in English top-flight history after bagging an incredible 260 goals in his time on the pitch.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Shearer has a colossal net worth of $52.5 million (£39.2million). He is believed to be on £380,000 a year for his role on Match of the Day, according to the Beeb's recent figures.

While he is one of the show's leading contributors, he was at the centre of a recent, and shocking, pay cut by the company. The ex-forward had to watch as a staggering £65,000 was stripped from his salary.

Prior to the hefty cut, Shearer was pocketing £445,000 from the corporation annually. The Amazon Prime Video commentator also doesn't earn anywhere near what his colleague, and Match of the Day host, Gary Lineker does.

The former Leicester striker is currently on a staggering £1,350,000 per year. As well as his roles with the BBC and Amazon, Shearer also worked for Al-Jazeera on media duties, which is believed to have earned him a handsome sum.

The former goal-getter also had a lucrative deal with Umbro throughout his career and wore their boots for the majority of his time on the pitch. The deal was estimated to be worth £1.33m a year and he even once discussed how he turned down an enticing offer from rival brand, Adidas, which was worth £600,000 more, to stick with the British company.

Who is Shearer's wife?

Shearer is married to his partner Lainya. The couple met while the prolific forward was still playing for Southampton.

The pair got married a few years later in an intimate wedding ceremony on June 8, 1991. Lainya likes to keep things private, which means their relationship has remained largely under wraps. But fans have commented on how young Lainya looks even to this day, with several people commenting on how the 54-year-old greatly resembles her daughters.

While little is known about Lainya, she has featured in several of Alan's stories over the years. One tale came from the days when he left Southampton to join Blackburn Rovers in 1992.

Lainya, then pregnant with their firstborn Chloe, couldn't mask her displeasure at the move and her new surroundings. Shearer recalled his wife's reaction to their new home during an episode of The Rest is Football, as he said: "She was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, 'what the f*** have you done?'"

Alan and Lainya have two daughters and one son. Chloe, 33, Hollie, 29, and Will, 23, all have a strong presence on social media.

While Shearer had to playfully scold Will for goading AC Milan fans after a Champions League tie in 2023, it appears his two daughters have a slightly less audacious side to them. Chloe has been romantically linked with Micky Young – a 35-year-old former scrum-half widely known for his time with Newcastle Falcons, who recently moved to Gloucester

The budding singer and a songwriter has over 80,000 followers on Instagram. As well as her being known for her fashion and beach snaps, Hollie also regularly shares her unreleased songs and motivational posts.

She has also gained interest for her love life which has seen her partner up with a rising rugby union talent, Joe Marchant, who plays for Stade Francais and England's national squad. Their romance is said to have begun in February 2022 and they now have a home in Paris together.

However, Alan did had something to say when asked about his daughter's romance with the sport star. Quizzed about the budding relationship, he quipped: "I'm just glad it's not a footballer."
