Jacksonville Jaguars NFL star explains how London factor can help with push for playoffs

Trevor Lawrence hopes that two weekends in London will help the Jacksonville Jaguars fire themselves back into the race for the NFL playoffs.

The Jaguars started the season with four straight defeats before facing Indianapolis last week. With five minutes to play they were cruising to their first win of the season before blowing a 14-point lead.

But with the game tied at 34-34 and headed to overtime, quarterback Lawrence drove them downfield to set up Cam Little to kick the game-winning field goal with 21 seconds left for a 37-34 victory.

“Offensively I thought we did a good job in the fourth quarter,” said Lawrence. “That was a crazy quarter with all the back and forth.

“Being up 14 with five minutes left, a lot of times you relax and start to feel comfortable, and think ‘we’ve got it’. We were pumped and we had a lot of momentum.

“But you just never know what’s going to happen. You can never check out of a game because this is the NFL and stuff like that happens every week.

“As well as we played on offence all day, once we got the ball back, we knew we had to go finish the game.

“That’s why I thought it was good that we had to go win it because offensively we struggled earlier this season so it was good for our confidence, to have the game in our hands and drive down the field to get the field goal to win the game. That was great for us. It shows you that you have to play a full 60 minutes.”

Last season was the first time the Jaguars had played back-to-back games in London but this time Lawrence is looking forward to doing the whole trip in one hotel rather than moving mid-trip as they did last year.

This time round, they flew in on Friday and will have a week and a half at The Grove in Hertfordshire without interruption.

“Both places were good [last year] and we made it work but it will be nice just to keep your stuff in one place for 10 days and not have to move after the first game.

“You get in a rhythm in a certain place, whether it’s the food or where the practice field is, or all the facilities, you like to get in a routine so that will be nice staying at the same hotel.”
