New York Jets star could perform ludicrous NFL U-turn without playing a game

Haason Reddick hasn't played a down for the New York Jets since being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, and is already looking for a way out

Linebacker Haason Reddick, who has yet to don a New York Jets uniform since his trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, is reportedly seeking a way back to his former team.

Reddick was already embroiled in a contract dispute with the Eagles, but this issue fell into the lap of the Jets when he was traded for a conditional third-round pick. The 30-year-old continues his holdout at the Jets, and despite his request for a trade, general manager Joe Douglas hasn't felt compelled to resolve the matter, continuing to fine Reddick instead.

So far, this situation has cost Reddick $8 million, and for each game he misses between now and the end of the season, that will increase by $800,000. The situation has become even more frustrating for all parties involved after the Eagles signed Jets free agent Bryce Huff to a three-year deal worth $51 million, although that deal hasn't panned out as expected.

Reddick has yet to play for the Jets, and Huff has only one tackle in 80 snaps for the Eagles so far this season. According to ESPN, Huff isn't fitting in well with the Eagles organisation and Reddick is open to the idea of returning to his former team, suggesting a sensational reverse trade could be on the horizon.

Rich Cimini, the beat writer for the Jets, unpacked some big talking points on his "Flight Deck" podcast. Regarding players possibly returning to their old teams, he remarked, "Bryce Huff, probably one of the more disappointing free agents in the NFL right now, and get this, 77 snaps right now on defense, only 1 tackle, 0 pressures, 0 quarterback hits, 0 sacks.

"So essentially, he's done in 77 snaps what Haason Reddick has done with no snaps, which is nothing. I don't think that's an indictment on Huff. I mean, we know he's a good player, and so I do believe the Jets made a mistake by letting him go. It's just that he's not a good fit in the Eagles' system."

Throwing light on the defensive coordination at the Eagles, Cimini explained, "And clearly Vic Fangio, their defensive coordinator has not embraced Huff. And so that's on the Eagles. They screwed up that signing. They've taken a good player and they're misusing him.

"Could he get traded to the Jets? Let's put it this way. A little birdie told me that Reddick I don't think would be opposed to something like that. I think Reddick is so frustrated with the Jets' situation - of course, he did request a trade in August - that he wouldn't mind going back to Philadelphia.

"Again, heard it from a little birdie. Take it for what it's worth. Could that trade happen? Reddick for Huff? Boy, that would be one of the more bizarre trades in NFL history. A lot of things would have to fall into place, which makes it kind of far-fetched, but it's an interesting situation to look at nonetheless."

Although the trade prospects are making waves among fans and insiders alike, financial realities could pose a barrier, with the Jets seemingly reluctant to shoulder Huff's hefty $17 million annual salary after previously parting ways. Moreover, Reddick's unsuccessful negotiation efforts with the Eagles play into this scenario, as heading back to Philadelphia could weaken his bargaining position.
