Morocco manager provides update after Man Utd star Noussair Mazraoui undergoes heart procedure

Noussair Mazraoui is facing some time on the sidelines for Manchester United and Morocco after undergoing a minor corrective procedure following heart palpitations

Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui could be back playing by mid-November, according to Morocco manager Walid Regragui.

Mazraoui underwent a minor precautionary corrective procedure this week after experiencing palpitations. United have not put a timeline on his return, but he is expected to be out of action for a prolonged period while he recovers from what is understood to be a relatively common condition.

The 26-year-old full-back was substituted during United’s 0-0 draw at Aston Villa and subsequently withdrew from Morocco's squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Central African Republic. However, Regragui has now given a promising update when asked about Mazraoui.

"Noussair Mazraoui is not suffering from a dangerous illness, Inshallah (God willing), he will be with us in the next camp in November," he said. Morocco are scheduled to play Gabon and Lesotho on November 10 and 18.

Mazraoui has started all seven of United's Premier League games this season at right-back following his £17million transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer. His versatility is a major plus for Erik ten Hag, who has been without left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia this season.

"Yeah, I was a midfielder and then, for the second team, I played one season in every position. From left-winger to central defender in the next game,” Mazraoui said recently. "So I’ve played everywhere and that is what really helped me now because wherever I come onto the pitch, I feel comfortable. I don’t feel like ‘what do I have to do over here?’ I just know what to do with it. I’ve played already in every position so that really helped me a lot.

"The moment I got my first professional contract, I felt from that moment on that my career was starting and I just wanted more, it was kind of my first success in my career. Every step I've made, which was a move to this big club, or the move to Bayern Munich as well, these are moments which show why you work so hard every day, why you do the extra work.”

Mazraoui’s absence will give Ten Hag a headache, with Diogo Dalot having filled in at left-back so far this season. Victor Lindelof came on as a right-back at Villa Park on Sunday and helped a makeshift United defence keep a clean sheet.

United are back in action against Brentford on Saturday in the Premier League before playing Fenerbahce and West Ham. They are desperate to end a five-game winless run which has put huge pressure on Ten Hag.
