Ineos agree on next Man United steps as contact 're-established' with Erik ten Hag replacement

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has seemingly held onto his job at Old Trafford for now.

The Dutchman has overseen the worst start to a Premier League season ever for United this campaign with the Reds languishing in 14th. Ten Hag was considered to be in hot water after the dismal defeat to Tottenham Hotspur but draws against Porto and Aston Villa appear to have quelled the threat of the sack for now.

Heading into the Premier League's return this weekend with Brentford the visitors to Manchester, it appears that Ten Hag's position may not be as safe as he would want it to be as Ineos look to implement a new transfer strategy. MEN Sport takes a closer look in the latest media watch.

Ineos agreed on next steps for recruitment

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ineos are fully committed to spending money on the talent of the future rather than necessarily just players for the present day. In the summer, United signed promising youngsters Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone on deals which are, relatively speaking, incredibly cheap.

It is believed the United owners want to build teams for the future and that more signings of players who are not perhaps ready for the first team just yet are expected in the future.

What MEN Sport says: This strategy will come as little shock to anyone that has kept a close eye on what Ineos have done throughout their career in sport. Ineos have always aimed to prioritise investment in youth rather than splashing huge wads of cash on established stars. The only problem with this patient approach to transfers is that United are desperate for success in the short term and currently they don't have the talent to achieve that. United fans will be sympathetic to the position of investing in youth but success in the short term is vital too.

United 're-establish' Tuchel contact

According to TBR Football, United have re-established contact with Thomas Tuchel over the prospect of him potentially taking over from Ten Hag. It is believed the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager's agent has been told by his client that he wants to return to England and they are now doing everything in their power to make that happen.

It is believed that United are keeping their options open this month with Ten Hag's future undecided.

What MEN Sport says: United will need to be wary, if they do want to appoint Tuchel, that he is a man in demand at present. The England national team is still thought to be a realistic option for the German and that position is appealing considering the current quality in that squad. The Reds cannot afford to sit back and dawdle over deciding Ten Hag's future especially if they want to sack him as Tuchel is unlikely to hang around to see if United will offer him a deal should a contract with the FA be on the table.
