Man United 'want' to sign Premier League wonderkid who 'embarrassed' Erik ten Hag favourite

Manchester United will be eager to pick up from where they left off when they lock horns with Crystal Palace this weekend. The Red Devils enjoyed a 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday before putting seven past Barnsley on Tuesday.

When United face the Eagles at Selhurst Park, Erik ten Hag will be hoping for another clean sheet and even more goals. The Red Devils appear to have struck a nice vein of form just at the right time, with some difficult fixtures coming up.

In the next couple of weeks, United kickstart their Europa League campaign, play Tottenham Hotspur and take on Aston Villa. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News has rounded up the latest Manchester United news and transfer gossip.

United eye Premier League wonderkid

According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United have taken an interest in Tyler Dibling ahead of the January transfer window. The 18-year-old midfielder, who sees his contract at Southampton expire in June 2025, caught the eye when the Saints locked horns with Erik ten Hag's side at St. Mary's earlier this month.

Dibling had Diogo Dalot on strings, beating the right-back time and time again down the left-hand side. The teenage sensation eventually won Southampton a penalty after the Portugal international brought him down inside the box.

GiveMeSport states that Dibling has been on Dan Ashworth's radar for some time now and the United sporting director is hoping to lure him to Old Trafford. The report claims that the Saints are working hard to extend his contract on the south coast.

The Manchester Evening News says: "Tyler Dibling really impressed me during Southampton's clash against Manchester United. Diogo Dalot couldn't get near him in that first half – the teenager tore him to shreds and totally embarrassed him when earning the penalty! While a move to Old Trafford would be life-changing for his family, Dibling should stay at St. Mary's. He needs game time and the right environment to hone his skills."

United prepare Mainoo extension

According to Fabrizio Romano in his daily briefing, Manchester United are preparing to offer Kobbie Mainoo a new contract. The 19-year-old midfielder, who sees his deal at Old Trafford expire in June 2027, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to superstardom since bursting onto the scene last season.

The report states that the Red Devils are looking to 'advance' talks with Mainoo, who has the 'full trust' of Erik ten Hag. Romano adds that United want to reward the teenager with an 'important contract' to reflect his role in the first team.

The Manchester Evening News says: "Kobbie Mainoo definitely deserves an extension, but I wouldn't say this is a priority for Manchester United. He still has three years left on his current deal and I can't see him pushing to leave anytime soon. Top player."

Eriksen interest confirmed

The CEO of Sports at Anderlecht has confirmed that the club tried to sign Christian Eriksen in the summer. The 32-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with an exit from Manchester United, but a deal never materialised.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbal Nieuws, Jesper Fredberg said: "We brought in Leander Dendoncker, in a position where real competition was needed. That's why we didn't need another experienced player in midfield, although Eriksen was an absolute opportunity, which turned out not to be feasible."

Eriksen has admitted that he would have been open to leaving Old Trafford. He said: "If they told me to leave I would leave, but I didn't hear that. There's one year left [on my contract] so my focus is going to be on this year, going full-out and see what happens afterwards."

The Manchester Evening News says: "If I was Christian Eriksen, I would've pushed to leave in the summer and tried to sign that final long-term contract before retiring. Whether it's in the Premier League, the MLS, elsewhere in Europe or even back in Denmark, game time should be his priority. He's 32. There's still a few years left in his tank!"
