New Man United boss Ruben Amorim has already made stance on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal clear
by Patrick Austen-Hardy · Manchester Evening NewsNewly appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is an admirer of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The 39-year-old was officially unveiled as Erik ten Hag's replacement, becoming the latest young manager to take the reins of a global football powerhouse. Amorim and Arteta are part of a new wave of young coaches seeking to make their mark on European football.
They have previously met in the Europa League Round of 16, which ended with Amorim's Sporting Lisbon knocking the Gunners out in 2023. Before he sent the North Londoners packing out of Europe, Amorim admitted he looked up to the Spaniard.

Before his former side's clash against Arsenal, Amorim said: "In our first season we won the league, then were runners-up and we qualified for the Champions League last 16.
"This year we are struggling, but Arteta is an example because he was able to withstand the pressure, which is unbearable for a team in the Premier League. Now he is bearing the fruits.
"It is important for fans to understand that to pick up the fruits from your work, you have to wait."

Arteta's position was under threat in the early weeks of his third season in charge, following two consecutive eighth-place finishes. He was on thin ice when his third campaign began with three consecutive defeats, no goals scored, and nine conceded.
Arsenal enjoyed a strong recovery, securing a fifth-place finish and achieving consecutive second-place positions in the Premier League standings. Arteta has also highlighted his previous admiration of Amorim's Lisbon side.
Arteta said: "The variety, options and the change in formations that they can do, and within that shape as well. The profile of players especially the wing-backs change their behaviours. We know that, and until we have the line-ups, we will have a few question marks as we try to understand what they will do."

Amorim will be tasked with steering a United team who have begun the season terribly. United are languishing at 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League rankings.
However, United fans will have to wait to see him in the dugout, as he will manage his first match on November 24, when the Red Devils travel to Ipswich Town. Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in the dugout when Chelsea visit Old Trafford on the weekend.
He will return to Old Trafford in the Europa League when PAOK Athens travel to the red side of Manchester. The Dutchman's final match as interim manager will be the home clash against Leicester City.
