Boxing fans worried Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight could be cancelled after training clip

by · Manchester Evening News

Mike Tyson recently shared a video of his sparring session ahead of his much-anticipated bout with Jake Paul. However, some boxing enthusiasts have expressed worry, suspecting that the 58-year-old might be nursing a minor injury.

'Iron Mike' is set to make an exciting comeback to the ring next month against 'The Problem Child', who is 31 years younger than him. Tyson hasn't participated in a professional match since his defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, although he did step into the ring for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr four years ago.

The face-off between the two boxing celebrities is slated for November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas. They were initially supposed to fight earlier this year, but Tyson had to withdraw from the original match in July due to an ulcer flare-up.

Since his professional debut in 2020, Paul has been reasonbly active in the ring. With a record of 10-1, the-27-year-old has triumphed over Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz.

His sole loss in the sport was a points defeat to Tommy Fury last year, reports the Mirror.

Supporters have expressed concern for Tyson's well-being ahead of the heavyweight bout and have criticised the decision to proceed with the fight. Those concerns intensified after some individuals noticed an issue with 'Iron Mike's' recent training footage.

One user remarked: "Hope right knee is holding. Is it an injury? " Tyson is seen hitting a heavy bag and sparring a training partner in the clip. However, he is wearing a knee support on his right knee, suggesting a potential issue just weeks before the fight.

That wasn't the only issue spotted by fans. One user commented: "I think I know why there are so many jump cuts. You are going to be gassed in 20 seconds."

Another wrote: "I'm starting to think that dudes in some serious trouble. Hope his insurance is paid up. All that money will buy a nice wheelchair."

A fourth user posted: "We see these 10 second clips of furious power and speed .... It's the 15mins of recovery afterwards we don't see. Silly fight, with silly caveats in the contract to make it last but as well all know ... money ru(i)ns this world now."

A fifth commented: "I've yet to see 2 min of straight action lol."

While supporters have expressed concern, many remain hopeful about the big fight set for November.

Enthusiasm abounds among some, with comments such as: "If anyone can turn back the clock one more time, it's Mike," and "Let's go champ. Iron Mike aging like fine wine. Show them what we missed all these years and deliver a knuckle sandwich knockout."

Another eager viewer said: "Can't wait either mate, I have not watched boxing since the early 90's, going to watch this one for sure," while another confidently added, "Jake is f*****."

Tyson, meanwhile, has stayed focused and disciplined as the matchup approaches. He's been noticeably quieter on social media compared to his opponent Paul, focussing in on his training.

At a recent LF* GO! press event, the legendary boxer known didn't mince words when he promised to inflict "a lot of pain" on Paul. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Tyson revealed the rigor of his training regime.

"I am training extremely hard, I do six hours a day. I start at 11am and might leave the gym at 5pm," he said.
