Mike Tyson's last opponent expects early end to Jake Paul fight

Roy Jones Jr believes Mike Tyson will make light work of Jake Paul and end their upcoming fight with an early stoppage.

Jones Jr, 55, is the most recent person to get in the boxing ring with Tyson, doing so four years ago when the two former world champions fought in an exhibition match. That eight-round bout was controversially called a split draw despite Tyson outlanding his opponent by a wide margin.

The co-main event that night in Los Angeles, California, saw Paul fight for only the second time as a professional. He knocked out the former basketball player Nate Robinson in the second round, knocking down his opponent three times before the stoppage.

Tyson has not fought again since that event, whereas Paul has been back in the ring nine more times, winning all but one of those bouts. The only defeat came via a split decision against Tommy Fury.

Despite being the much more active fighter over recent years, Jones Jr believes Tyson still has what it takes to beat Paul, who is considered the favourite coming into their fight. "Mike Tyson can beat anybody he wants to when he feels like it," Jones Jr told Betway Insider.

"On the other hand, Jake Paul needs to adjust and learn to do things he hasn't done before. Mike will teach him a lesson about boxing as he goes because Mike knows all the ins and outs of the sport.

"That said, Mike could win the fight early and will do that. If Jake can hang around long enough to tire Mike out—and he's a 58-year-old man, that's possible—then he has a great chance."
