Major Man City and Arsenal Premier League title race change made after Newcastle blow

Arsenal's dramatic win over Leicester City has propelled them to the top of the bookies' list for the 2024/25 Premier League title, with Manchester City's earlier stumble also taken into account.

Mikel Arteta was all smiles at half-time today as Leandro Trossard extended a lead that Gabriel Martinelli had established just minutes before. The Gunners came into today's match against the Foxes knowing that Pep Guardiola's Man City had failed to secure victory against Newcastle United, dropping two crucial points at St. James' Park.

However, Arteta soon faced the possibility of his own team losing points from a winning position once again, as a brace from James Justin left the Emirates Stadium in shock and set up a tense final half-hour. Ultimately, Arsenal's skill prevailed, forcing an own goal from Wilfred Ndidi and securing another through Kai Havertz to clinch a 4-2 victory over Leicester

While neither side will be focusing on the Premier League table after just six matches, this weekend's results have certainly made for more pleasant reading for the Gunners. They now match the points tally of the team that has beaten them to the trophy for the past two years, both teams currently sitting on 14 points, reports Football London.

At this point, it's only goal difference that puts City at the top of the table, with their total of eight just edging out Arsenal's seven. Despite this, many are tipping Arteta's men to pull off the seemingly impossible and finish above their rivals once all 38 games have been played by next May.

According to Oddschecker, several leading bookmakers have shortened Arsenal's odds, pushing them ahead of new second-favourites City. The latter's odds have lengthened, possibly due to concerns that midfielder Rodri's season-long injury could have a significant impact.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, who are just one point behind their London rivals and City after a 4-2 victory over Brighton, are now fourth favourites for the Premier League title.

The only team that could potentially upset the apple cart is Liverpool. Arne Slot's side are hot on the heels of the top teams and could actually take the lead in the league with 15 points if they manage to beat Wolves in today's late kick-off.
