How Man United can sign Viktor Gyokeres despite Ruben Amorim's admission and FFP worries
by Jack Flintham · Manchester Evening NewsSporting striker Viktor Gyokeres is the name on the lips of every Manchester United supporter currently after his brilliant display in the victory over Manchester City in the Champions League.
The Swede has been a revelation for incoming United manager Ruben Amorim having bagged a whopping 66 goals in just 67 appearances for the Lisbon club. Of course, with Amorim leaving speculation is rife as to whether United would make a move for the striker in the future.
United are currently painfully short of goals with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee not proving to be prolific for the Reds so far this season. However, to get the deal done Ineos will need to juggle a few issues first.

MEN Sport has taken a look through the challenges and solutions between United and Gyokeres' signature.
Convincing Amorim
First job on the Ineos to-do list will be to convince Amorim that he should raid his old club for Gyokeres. The 39-year-old refused to even joke about the prospect of signing Gyokeres on Tuesday night and has already insisted he will not sign any Sporting players in January.
Of course, this promise fails to mention that a raid in the summer could well be possible. But what has been clear since he was named the successor to Erik ten Hag, is that Amorim holds a lot of love for Sporting and won't want to hurt them any further in his switch to Old Trafford.
He will be a realist though and simply put, there are not many No.9s commanding the same goalscoring threat as Gyokeres. Amorim may well have to accept that returning for the Swede is inevitable.
Squaring a deal with FFP
After convincing Amorim to submit a bid, it will be United's job to then find the funds to finance the deal. Sporting will be unwilling to budge on the £83m price tag currently set for Gyokeres and as such United may have to sell players.
The likes of Antony and Mason Mount find themselves in precarious positions considering their starts to life in Manchester. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has been linked with the exit door but this seems premature at such an early stage.
United will likely use the accounting method of amoritisation to avoid Financial Fair Play (FFP) punishments. This would allow the £83m fee to be spread over the length of the player's contract.
However, at 26, United may be unwilling to offer any more than a four-year-deal to Gyokeres. This would see him cost the Reds £20.75m per year which is a hefty chunk of their allowed losses.
This could be reduced to £16.6m per year if he is offered a five-year deal though.
Convince Gyokeres
Should Ineos manage to find room in their budget to afford the transfer fee for Gyokeres it would then be a case of convincing the man himself to join the United project. The striker has spoken highly of Amorim previously and having played in England previously, the move back would not be such a big step.
However, there is no getting away from the fact United are struggling right now and with Sporting flying and Arsenal potentially interested too, it could be difficult to convince the Swede to join the Reds.
