Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson reacts to chaotic Porto draw during Rangers match

Sir Alex Ferguson was caught on camera reacting to Manchester United's tumultuous draw with Porto, all while supporting his boyhood club Rangers.

Opting out of a trip to Portugal for United's Europa League match, Sir Alex chose a visit to Glasgow instead where he watched the team he once played for, Rangers, face Lyon in the same competition. Despite this, he kept an eye on Erik ten Hag's beleaguered squad.

As Rangers faced a 4-1 loss in the final moments, Ferguson was spotted in the stands checking his phone for updates from the Porto game. With United trailing 3-2 after initially leading 2-0 and witnessing Bruno Fernandes' second consecutive red card, it seemed to be shaping up as a dismal evening for the legendary manager.

But relief washed over Ferguson when he received word of Harry Maguire's last-minute leveller. He turned to his neighbour and said: "3-3 to United, 3-3. Harry Maguire".

The footage, once shared on social media, drew reactions from United fans who felt for the most successful manager in their history. One comment read: "We have made this guy's retirement absolute hell." Another fan quipped: "He was reading my message, and I asked him kindly to come back to Manchester United."

Meanwhile, a third lamented: "This man's passion for the game and his club, at that age, is what's missing from the players and the manager today. Especially at a club like ours. THIS Mentality and Passion."

Despite salvaging an unexpected draw, the outcome has increased the scrutiny on Ten Hag, who is now bracing for a challenging visit to Aston Villa, fresh from their impressive Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

With Ten Hag's role set to undergo evaluation during the forthcoming international break, he expressed "mixed feelings" post-match while criticising his team's defensive performance. He said: "When you are winning a game. We all know this is a very tough place to go and then you start so well, the players executed the plan, I would say, brilliantly.

"We scored two great goals and then we switch it off and we don't keep so much possession as before. Defending we're switching off.

"We concede the first goal totally unnecessarily and then you know when you light up the fire in this stadium, in this ambience, then it's becomes really tough.

"We addressed it in half-time and then you concede the third one, so unnecessary. It's not good defending again. It's also to do with some willingness in such moments. But then I have to praise the guys for how they return in the game, how they fight, how we find a way to get the equaliser."
