Bruno Fernandes sends heartwarming 13-word message after surprise Man United reunion

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sent his best wishes to former academy star Maxi Oyedele after he made his debut for Poland against Portugal on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old was born in Salford and came through the youth ranks at Carrington but qualifies to play for the Polish national team through his mother. Having represented the Eastern European country at youth level, the defensive midfielder made his debut on the senior international stage at the weekend in a 3-1 defeat to Fernandes' Portugal.

His call-up to Michal Probierz's squad caps off what has been a whirlwind few years for the teenager. Oyedele did not make a senior appearance for United during his time at the club but did undertake successful loan stints at Altrincham and Forest Green Rovers.

In the summer, United decided to cash in on Oyedele selling him for roughly £500K to Legia Warsaw. His form since moving to Poland has clearly risen his stock and it was clear that Fernandes took pride in facing him in the Nations League.

Posting to Instagram after the match, the Reds' skipper posed with Oyedele after swapping shirts, adding the caption: "Happy to see you doing great things. You deserve all the best kid."

Adding to that heartwarming tribute in his post-match interview, Fernandes said: "I think he was always one of the players that everyone at the club thought he would be coming from the academy into the first-team. He has great qualities, he is a great kid and really humble."
